Physicists say they have proven that the Higgs Boson “God particle” exists. They have seen a footprint and a shadow, but have not actually seen the particle that has given matter to our universe.

Scientists at CERN will announce Wednesday, July 4th 2012 that they have all but confirmed the theory that could change how we understand why matter has mass, which gives matter weight.

The Higgs boson is a hypothetical elementary particle predicted by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. It belongs to a class of particles known as bosons, characterized by an integer value of their spin quantum number. The Higgs field is a quantum field that fills all of space, and explains why fundamental particles (or elementary particles) such as quarks and electrons have mass. The Higgs boson is an excitation of the Higgs field above its ground state. Source: Wikipedia

CERN’s Large Hadron Collider has been seeking the Higgs Boson particle to prove the creation of the universe, which is also known as The Big Bang.
